A new “greener” approach to pot hole and patch repairs
Tarstone is always striving to improve work efficiencies and introduce new, more sustainable, “greener” maintenance and repair solutions to reduce our impact on the environment and assist the circular economy.
The Thermal Repair unit generates heat by using renewable energy, via a mix of LPG and integrated energy-efficient solar panels, to heat areas of the carriageway showing signs of deterioration. The existing failing or failed material is then mixed with 10% of virgin bituminous material to create a homogeneous mix. This is then raked and compacted with a roller, leaving a superior surface finish with no joints and a safer road.
This patented, thermal technology is the perfect solution for problem areas and defects such as potholes, joint failures, texture loss, patch repairs and difficult, inaccessible locations (i.e., junctions, busy intersections, etc.,).
This process offers a superior option when completing repair work as no visible joints are present. It is especially useful for areas of HRA where chip loss may have occurred. Its smooth operation leaves no visible repaired area compared to existing methods of breaking out defective areas. It is a perfect solution for any snags/repairs required to newly installed roads where small damages may have occurred.
Benefits
Faster
<10 mins from start to finish on small repairs, i.e. minimal disruption.
Cleaner
With less machinery and heavy goods vehicles required on site (one self-contained unit with a small crew), there’s reduced noise, less air pollutants & greenhouse gas emissions, and no dust. There is no need for milling, saw cutting or jack hammering. Also, there is no requirement for additional vehicles to dispose of the waste or bring material in as all materials are recycled and no wastage created.
With less machinery, less noise, and the faster, more efficient process, this solution is ideal for use in city/residential or night time working.
Greener
With an 85% saving in carbon emissions, 100% of waste being recycled, plus the benefits of lower noise and air pollution, this solution truly offers a green alternative compared to existing methods.
Efficient
• No road saw or excavator required
• No hotbox or material delivery truck required
• No vehicle required to remove waste materials to designated waste facility
• No waste materials generated
• Existing materials are reused
• Bio methane and bio propane compatible
• No joints
• Superior surface finish for safer roads
