Traditionally diamond blade saws and pneumatic breakers have been used to excavate manholes.
This poses a danger to operatives and road user ie.silica dust, white finger, debris hitting the operative etc.
To counteract this and to prevent damage to the utility itself by the use of a pneumatic breaker, Tarstone Road Maintenance Limited have developed a manhole cutter suitable for use here in Ireland.
By using the new circular cutter/spinner, this risk is removed.
Also by using a circular pattern the possibilities of stress fractures (which come from the corners) is removed which would be common in square reinstatements around ironworks.
Tarstone and EJ have also started to brand the manholes in conjunction with this new method of excavation and removal of the existing cover, and date the year of the installation.
